Samsung Announces End of Service for Samsung Messages Samsung is officially shutting down its native messaging app. In an “End of Service Announcement” posted on its website, the company revealed that the Samsung Messages app will no longer be available by July of this year.

In the meantime, Samsung is encouraging users to switch to Google Messages as their default messaging app.

Users Encouraged to Switch to Google Messages

Samsung is effectively putting the final nail in the coffin for its own messaging platform. The company has advised anyone still using Samsung Messages to transition to Google Messages for a smoother and more modern messaging experience.

Benefits of Switching to Google Messages

For Samsung Messages users in the United States, moving to Google Messages brings access to RCS messaging. This allows users to:

Send high-quality media
Participate in group chats
See real-time typing indicators

These features work regardless of the smartphone’s operating system.

While Galaxy smartphone owners may lose some customization options available in Samsung Messages, Google Messages compensates with advanced features. These include generative AI powered by Gemini, which can remix photos directly within chats.

Additionally, Google Messages makes it easier for Samsung users to sync and switch conversations across multiple devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.

Samsung’s Gradual Transition to Google Messages

This shift does not come as a surprise. Samsung has been phasing out its Messages app for several years.

Starting with devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, and later with the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung stopped preloading Samsung Messages. Instead, it began pre-installing Google Messages as the default messaging app.

Although the Samsung Messages app is still available on the Galaxy Store, Samsung has stated that the exact final shutdown date will be announced within the app itself.
